Chapter 33 A Two-Sided Choice
Chapter 33 A Two-Sided Choice
"What did Harvey say?"
"He gave me an address, at an abandoned subway station in the suburbs."
Gordon said, "I've already turned on the Bat-Signal; this time I'm afraid I'll have to rely on Batman's power."
"Don't worry, buddy, just tell me the exact address, and Batman and I will head over there." Levi gestured for Gordon to calm down.
"But honestly, you'd better go back and protect your family first." He changed the subject, his tone becoming serious. "Staying here is irresponsible to your family."
Gordon's hands gripping the steering wheel were bulging with veins, a clear indication of an intense internal struggle he was going through.
The police car turned a few streets, and Levi noticed Gordon finally relaxed. "Man, you're right, I really should prioritize my family, especially Barbara..."
The police car quickly pulled up under a streetlamp, its dim light illuminating the flooded pavement and blending with Gotham's relentless rain.
The rain in this city always carries an indelible grime, pounding against the glass dome with a dull, drum-like sound that makes one's heart sink.
Soon, the roar of an engine came from the window. Li Wei looked out the window in the direction of the sound and saw that the Batmobile was rushing towards their location.
Looking at the cool, powerful, and technologically advanced Batmobile, Levi felt it was necessary to let Mr. Wayne wear his vest for a little longer.
I wonder how he will feel when he learns that his identity has been exposed, having witnessed his many moments of glory.
After a while, a tooth-grinding scraping sound rang out, and the Batmobile came to a steady stop next to their police car.
Smelling the rubber in the air, Li Wei really wanted to ask if these two were trained by the same coach.
"Gordon, where are we headed?" Batman asked, as concise as ever.
"I'll take you to an abandoned subway station."
As Li Wei spoke, he opened the door and got out of the police car. "I think Gordon needs to go back and take care of his family now."
Although Batman couldn't understand why Levi said that, he nodded out of trust for him.
"Get in the car."
Levi stepped onto the Batmobile, and the engine roared once more.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Li Wei even began to understand those girls who would jump into luxury cars at the drop of a hat.
Looking at the high-tech Batmobile, even though he told himself it was nothing special, he was still somewhat excited.
Having watched so many Batman movies, the thought of actually sitting in the Batmobile would make countless people drool.
All I can say is that money really does have its advantages; he even considered taking out his phone to take a couple of photos.
—Look, my friends, I got to ride in the Batmobile today!
Out of the corner of his eye, Batman caught a glimpse of Li Wei looking around curiously, and the corners of his mouth curled up slightly.
This guy always acts all cocky and like he's got everything under control, which really annoys him.
Li Wei's performance this time greatly satisfied his vanity.
"Put this on," Batman said, handing Levi a headset, trying to sound as cold and hard as possible. "We might split up later, so this will make it easier to stay in touch."
Upon taking the headset, Li Wei noticed that it was exquisitely made, with no markings on it.
Hanging on his ears, he felt very light, and it did not affect his movements at all.
The key point is that this thing doesn't seem to have any effect on hearing.
Without a doubt, it was produced by Wayne Enterprises' technology department.
...
Abandoned subway station in the suburbs.
Li Wei's boots splashed through the puddles, the spray carrying a strong smell of rust.
The smell was strikingly similar to the musty odor he had detected in the police files.
After discussing it with Batman, they decided that he would take the lead while Batman would disappear into the darkness.
"He should be around here," Li Wei whispered into his headset.
As night deepened, everything was pitch black except for the light from the flashlight.
Batman was now hidden in the shadow of the platform pillar, the edge of his cape brushing against the graffiti-covered wall, blending into the darkness.
"He must be waiting for us somewhere." Batman's voice came through the headset, cold and devoid of any emotion.
Li Wei nodded slowly; he fully understood Batman's meaning.
Harvey Dent was clearly well-prepared this time, and it seems that the tragedy of "Two-Face" is ultimately unavoidable.
Suddenly, the sound of chains being dragged came from deep within the platform, mixed with suppressed sobs, and was particularly clear in the empty space.
Li Wei immediately shone his tactical flashlight in the direction from which the sound came. The beam of light pierced the darkness, and the scene that appeared made his gums ache.
Police officer Michael Watts was tied to the rusty railroad tracks, his wrists raw and bleeding.
A man stood in front of Watts, half of his face hidden in shadow.
The other half of the skin exposed to the light was twisted and charred, like a mask gnawed by flames, grotesque and terrifying.
The man was Harvey Dent, who was toying with a coin in his hand. The soft clinking of the metal echoed in the silent platform, sounding particularly jarring.
The coin was tossed high into the air, and with the help of the flashlight, Li Wei could see it very clearly.
One side of the coin features a clean portrait, while the other side is jet black, almost identical to what is shown in the movie.
"You're taking so long." His voice was hoarse and dry, as if there were shards of glass stuck in his throat. "I thought Gordon would come in person."
After all, he was the one who personally put these "good cops" into the ranks.
As Harvey spoke, he glanced down at Watts, who was tied to the railroad tracks, in a provocative manner.
"Harvey, let him go." Levi took two steps forward, his flashlight beam firmly locked onto Harvey.
During this time, he saw Harvey's photo in the file. Back then, Harvey Dent was sunny, cheerful, and full of vigor.
Everyone firmly believed that he would be the rightful Knight of Light for Gotham.
However, Harvey, whose face was half-blackened like a ghost, was no longer the same as before.
Harvey looked up abruptly, his burned profile appearing terrifying like a demon in the beam of light.
"Let him go? You fucking tell me to let him go?!"
He suddenly laughed, but his laughter was mixed with a heavy sob, "When I was struggling to survive, who let me go?"
What were you guys doing while I was looking at this awful reflection in the mirror?
He suddenly squatted down, grabbed Watts' chin hard, and slapped the coin onto Watts' sweaty forehead.
"Tell them who told you to send out the fake address. Tell them, and a coin will give you a chance."
Li Wei understood; Harvey had indeed found out.
It was Watts who provided the information when he was kidnapped by the Joker, which led to the subsequent tragedy.
Bound tightly to the rails, Watts' teeth chattered, his face filled with extreme terror.
His gaze darted back and forth between Harvey's charred face and the cold coin. "It's...it's Maroney...He said if I do as he says, everything that happened before will be wiped clean..."
"And then?" Harvey's voice suddenly rose, and he slapped Watts hard across the face, the crisp sound echoing through the platform.
"Didn't Ramirez give you anything? Didn't she help you cover up your dealings with drug dealers?"
Ramirez was a member of the Gordon Police Department, responsible for tasks such as escorting prisoners.
Previously, when the Joker created chaos and kidnapped Harvey Dent, she was forced to assist the Joker because her mother was being held hostage.
