Chapter 27 The Warrior's Tomb
Chapter 27 The Warrior's Tomb
Lin Mo stopped his skeletal warhorse and stared intently at the massive building in the distance.
That thing looked like a coffin.
An enormous stone coffin lay across the center of the ruins, about fifty meters long, twenty meters wide, and three stories high. The surface of the coffin was covered with dark green moss and withered vines, and the walls were carved with dense runes that gleamed with an eerie green light under the moonlight, as if something was slowly flowing beneath the stone.
At the top of the sarcophagus was a huge skull carving. Two eerie green flames burned in the skull's eye sockets, flickering in the night wind, as if gazing at everyone who approached.
Tomb of the Warriors.
Lin Mo's breathing quickened for a moment.
He had seen such things in his previous life, but had never been inside. The Warrior's Tomb is a special structure in the game world, similar to a small instance.
Once inside, you will be teleported to a separate undead space filled with undead troops and dangerous traps.
Only by clearing all the guards can you obtain rewards, including gold coins, resources, and medium or low-level treasures.
In very rare cases, the Tomb of Warriors may also yield an "Otherworld Map".
That's the key to entering the real game world. It's divided into seven levels. The higher the level, the more advanced and dangerous the corresponding game world area, and the richer the rewards.
Lin Mo glanced at the troop strength in the military manual.
Sixty-three skeleton soldiers, nine lesser demons, plus the bonuses of skeletal warhorses and various treasures.
Let's see how it goes first.
He didn't rush inside.
Because there were several people standing at the entrance to the Tomb of the Warriors.
Five men and one woman. They were between thirty and fifty years old, wearing parkas and work pants, and carrying guns. Their clothes were stained with dust and dried blood, and their faces bore the weariness and vigilance typical of the apocalypse.
Behind them stood a group of goblins, at least twenty or so, with green skin, green clothes, pointed ears, hunched backs, and chain hammers in their hands.
Beside the goblin were several dwarves, stocky in build, with muscular arms, long red beards, and half a head taller than the goblin. They held hammers in their hands, and their beards were braided.
These people are clearly not ordinary survivors.
Like Daniel, they seized certain opportunities in the apocalypse to gain "control" over these creatures.
But their eyes were filled with fear and confusion as they looked at Lin Mo.
The fear stemmed from the thing Lin Mo was riding: a warhorse made of bones, with ghostly flames burning in its eye sockets.
They were puzzled because they had never seen such a thing before.
"My God..." a middle-aged man wearing glasses whispered, his voice trembling, "What is that? That horse... is it alive?"
"It's not a horse, it's bones." The woman beside her gripped her shotgun tightly, her knuckles turning white. "The bones are moving."
"Did it crawl out of hell?"
"I don't know, but the person riding on it... must be more terrifying than the horse."
The group exchanged glances, all seeing the same message in each other's eyes: unless absolutely necessary, don't provoke this person.
The goblins and dwarves also sensed the undead aura emanating from the skeletal warhorse, and instinctively took a few steps back, emitting uneasy low neighs.
Lin Mo stopped a dozen meters away from them. The skeletal warhorse snorted and exhaled a puff of white, cold air.
His gaze swept over the group of people and landed on the goblins and dwarves behind them.
Twenty-three goblins, six dwarves.
A fairly decent force.
But they were no match for their own skeleton soldiers.
"Have you ever been inside this sarcophagus?" Lin Mo asked calmly, pointing to the entrance of the Warrior's Tomb.
The bespectacled man shook his head and said with a wry smile, "I dare not go in. Yesterday, a group of twelve people went in, along with more than twenty kobolds. We heard screams from inside, and none of them came out."
The woman beside her added, "Those guys thought they were really tough before they went in. They had guns, kobolds, and two magic scrolls they'd gotten from a treasure chest, but..." She pointed to the tightly closed stone door of the sarcophagus, "They all died inside."
Lin Mo nodded without saying anything more.
Entering the Tomb of Warriors without understanding its mechanics almost guarantees death.
He rode his horse to the stone gate of the Warrior's Tomb and reached out to touch the runes on the gate.
The runes were cold, like touching ice. A chilling aura seeped out from the crack in the door, carrying a putrid smell and an indescribable coldness.
"You want to go in?" The woman's voice held a hint of doubt. "It's dangerous in there. The group that went in yesterday thought they could handle it too. I suggest you don't do anything reckless..."
"Thank you for reminding me." Lin Mo said calmly, then spurred his horse toward the stone gate.
"Wait, are you really going in?" the woman called out to him.
Seeing that Lin Mo didn't seem to be joking, she took out a bottle of water and a pack of compressed biscuits from her backpack and handed them to him: "Take these with you, just in case you need them inside."
Lin Mo glanced at her, figuring it was just a kind gesture, so he took the water and biscuits and stuffed them into his backpack.
"There's no point in you staying here. This place can't be used as a base or a shelter. I suggest you wander around and look for other opportunities," he said.
The woman's lips moved as if she wanted to say something, but in the end she didn't say anything and just nodded.
Upon entering the Warrior's Tomb, there is a dark passage, about two meters wide and three meters high, with glowing runes embedded in the walls, but the light is very weak and can only illuminate a few meters away.
The passageway was filled with a putrid stench, a mixture of corpses and mold, mixed with a cloying sweetness that made one dizzy.
Lin Mo turned on his tactical flashlight, and the beam illuminated the area ahead.
The few people outside the Warrior's Tomb stood there, their expressions complex. Some shook their heads, some sighed, and some took out coins to start betting.
"I bet he'll die in there," a young man said.
"I think he'll make it out alive," the woman said after thinking for a moment.
There was a stone door in front of the passage. Lin Mo walked over, pushed it open, and stepped inside without hesitation. The stone door behind him slowly closed, making a dull sound that blocked out all the moonlight and sounds from outside.
The passageway was eerily quiet, with only Lin Mo's own footsteps and breathing.
The passage was long and winding, its destination unknown. The runes on the walls grew brighter, while the stone slabs on the ground grew darker. The stench of decay in the air grew stronger, forcing Lin Mo to cover his nose.
After walking for about three minutes, the view suddenly opened up ahead.
It was a huge underground space.
The dome is about ten meters high and is covered with stalactites, with dark red liquid dripping from the tips of the stalactites.
More runes were embedded in the walls, and their eerie glow dyed the entire space a ghastly green.
The ground was covered with gray stone slabs, which were riddled with cracks from which a dark red liquid seeped out, like blood that had dried up long ago.
In the center of the space, there is a stone altar.
On the altar lay a rusty iron helmet, inside which grew a withered plant.
Scattered around the altar were bones and broken weapons.
Behind the altar were three passageways side by side, clearly intended to give intruders a choice of which one to take.
Lin Mo stopped and scanned the entire space with his eyes.
According to details described by others who entered the Warrior's Tomb in their previous lives, the first wave of undead guards will appear after the first choice of the "Crossroads" route.
Without hesitation, Lin Mo chose the first entrance on the left.
Not long after entering, they arrived at an empty tomb chamber, and the next second, rustling sounds came from the shadows of this tomb chamber.
Soon, ten skeleton soldiers, eight zombies, and three ghosts emerged from the darkness.
