Chapter 352: Stretched dangerously thin
Chapter 352: Stretched dangerously thin
"No need to call for me. I’m already here."
Lian stepped into the room, his gaze immediately settling on Rory with unmistakable warmth.
"I saw that Prince Vincent and Marshal Vangar had returned. I assumed you might need me, so I came over on my own."
He was still dressed in an immaculate white robe untouched by a speck of dust.
His long silver hair was loosely gathered with a jade hairpin, while several strands framed his refined features. The soft contrast only accentuated his exquisite appearance and otherworldly elegance, making him look less like a mortal and more like an immortal descended from the heavens.
Watching him, Vangar could not help rolling his eyes internally.
This shameless fox truly knew how to seize every opportunity.
Not a single chance to impress his Female Master was ever wasted.
Was he really here to provide medical treatment?
Or had he dressed himself up specifically to seduce someone?
Lian paid no attention to Vangar’s thoughts.
Instead, he turned toward Vincent, who was still kneeling beside the bed.
"Prince Vincent, have you made your decision?"
His tone remained calm and composed.
"Are you prepared to transfer the burden of the pregnancy symptoms onto yourself?"
"Yes."
Vincent nodded immediately without the slightest hesitation.
Then he asked with concern,
"Lian, this won’t have any negative effect on Rory’s health, will it?"
"You have my word."
Lian’s expression softened.
"I will not allow Rory to suffer even the slightest harm."
After speaking, he glanced at Vincent and curved his lips into a faint smile.
"Your Highness should probably spend more time worrying about yourself."
His eyes carried a hint of amusement.
"Morning sickness is not a pleasant experience."
As long as Rory remained safe, nothing else mattered to Vincent.
If every hardship of the pregnancy could be transferred onto him instead, he would gladly bear it.
Without further delay, Lian retrieved a peculiar silver instrument from his spatial ring.
Several extremely rare energy crystals were embedded across its surface, and intricate runic patterns covered the metal frame.
"Prince Vincent, please place a drop of blood here."
He set the device and a blood collection needle before him.
Vincent frowned slightly.
"Does Rory need to provide blood as well?"
Lian shook his head.
"Rory only needs to give me a strand of hair."
Understanding immediately, Vincent pricked his fingertip without hesitation and allowed two drops of blood to fall onto the instrument.
Following Lian’s instructions, Rory plucked a strand of her hair and handed it over.
As she watched the device, she could not shake the feeling that it resembled the mirror Wen had once given her to determine a child’s biological father.
The principles seemed strangely similar.
Taking the strand of hair, Lian carefully placed it into a transparent groove at the center of the instrument.
The moment the hair settled into place, the intricate runes surrounding the groove lit up brilliantly.
At the same time, Vincent’s blood was absorbed by another series of symbols. The crimson droplets transformed into streaks of scarlet light that raced through the engraved pathways across the instrument’s surface.
"We’re beginning now."
Lian’s voice was quiet and focused.
He continuously channeled his power into the device.
As his energy flowed into it, the embedded crystals erupted with dazzling radiance.
Streams of light intertwined in midair and gradually formed the illusion of a magnificent firebird.
The enormous spectral bird spread its wings and enveloped both Rory and Vincent.
Unlike an ordinary firebird, its feathers were not blazing red.
Instead, they shimmered with a soft silver glow, like moonlight condensed into tangible form. The sight was sacred, pure, and breathtakingly beautiful.
At the same time, two distinct beams of light emerged from the instrument.
One was a gentle silver-white beam that connected to the center of Rory’s forehead.
The other was a deep violet beam threaded with crimson light that shot directly toward Vincent’s heart.
Rory immediately felt a soothing warmth bloom between her brows.
The relentless nausea that had churned inside her stomach for days vanished almost instantly.
The weakness and discomfort weighing down her body receded like a retreating tide.
Color visibly returned to her face, and the exhaustion that had plagued her seemed to melt away.
Across from her, Vincent’s body suddenly stiffened.
The color drained from his handsome face in an instant until he looked as pale as fresh snow.
An overwhelming wave of nausea surged violently from his stomach to his throat.
It felt as though every organ in his body had been seized and twisted.
Fine beads of sweat appeared across his forehead almost immediately.
His brows drew together tightly as he fought against the sensation.
"Rory..."
His voice came out strained and unsteady.
"Wait for me a moment."
After speaking, Vincent covered his mouth and hurried toward the bathroom.
He was terrified of ruining his image in front of Rory, and even more afraid of making her worry. Despite the violent nausea twisting his stomach, he forced himself to walk rather than run.
Watching him struggle to maintain his composure, Lian’s gentle features softened into a faint smile.
Turning back toward Rory, he asked warmly, "Rory, how are you feeling now?"
His voice carried genuine concern.
"Do you still feel uncomfortable anywhere?"
Rory carefully sensed the condition of her body.
For the first time in days, she felt completely refreshed.
The persistent nausea and exhaustion that had haunted her seemed to have vanished entirely.
"I feel great now."
A smile appeared on her face.
"I’m not uncomfortable at all."
As soon as she finished speaking, her gaze drifted toward the tightly closed bathroom door.
A slight crease formed between her brows.
Vincent had probably used his abilities to block out any sound.
Although she could not hear what was happening inside, she had experienced those symptoms herself.
She could easily imagine how miserable he must be right now.
Turning back toward Lian, she asked, "Lian, is there any way to make things easier for Vincent?"
Hearing the concern in her voice, Lian replied gently,
"Don’t worry."
His tone remained calm and reassuring.
"I’ll prepare several specially formulated medicines for Prince Vincent later."
Although he could not completely eliminate the symptoms, he could at least lessen their severity.
"He’ll still suffer somewhat, but it will be much more manageable."
"Thank you."
Rory nodded sincerely.
As long as Vincent could find some relief, she would feel better.
Seeing the tension ease from her expression, Lian naturally stepped closer to the bed and lightly took her hand.
A pure and soothing stream of energy flowed from his palm into her body like a gentle current.
"The symptoms may have been transferred to Prince Vincent, but the effects they had on your body haven’t completely disappeared."
His eyes remained focused on her.
"My ability can help speed up your recovery."
As more and more energy flowed into her, Rory felt as though every cell in her body had been recharged.
Strength surged through her limbs.
The lingering weakness vanished completely.
By the time Lian finally withdrew his hand, she felt energized enough to run several laps around the city.
"Thank you."
Her gratitude was entirely sincere.
Lian smiled softly.
"This is simply what a physician should do."
After storing away the instrument, he asked casually,
"How much longer do you plan to stay here?"
"If you’re not in a hurry to leave, I can come by every day and replenish your energy."
His gaze briefly lowered to her abdomen.
"That would be beneficial for both you and the baby."
Then he added naturally,
"And it would allow me to monitor Prince Vincent’s condition as well, so I can help alleviate his symptoms whenever necessary."
Every reason he presented was perfectly logical.
None of them could easily be rejected.
After thinking for a moment, Rory replied,
"Yuel said he’ll arrive tonight."
She paused briefly.
"So we’ll probably leave tomorrow or the day after."
Now that she was pregnant, returning to Central District as soon as possible was the safest choice.
"You’re returning to Central District?" Lian asked.
Rory nodded. "Yes."
A faint smile touched Lian’s lips.
"In that case, perhaps I should travel with you."
His tone remained as calm as ever.
"Considering your pregnancy, having a private physician accompany you would be highly advisable."
Not once did he openly confess his feelings.
Yet every sentence revealed exactly where his heart stood.
Rory looked at him, feeling increasingly conflicted.
She understood his intentions perfectly well.
If she agreed to let him accompany them while continuing to reject him, would that be unfair?
The problem was that she already had far too many mates.
She genuinely felt as though she could barely keep up.
Vangar and Aren still had not completed their mating bonds with her, yet she was already pregnant again.
Wen was still only a follower.
She had not even found time to officially elevate his status.
Then there were Nix and Jasper.
She had promised Nix countless times that she would visit him.
She had even promised to accompany him to the Liger Clan.
Not a single promise had been fulfilled.
And Jasper...
Guilt flashed through her eyes.
It had been far too long since she had properly spent time with him.
Xarion’s emotions had also seemed increasingly unstable lately.
His spiritual power was probably becoming problematic again, and he would need her soothing soon.
And then there was Paros...
The more Rory thought about it, the more overwhelmed she became.
At this point, even without adding another person to the equation, she already felt stretched dangerously thin.
