Chapter 561: Poison in the Womb
Chapter 561: Poison in the Womb
Most of the villagers suffer from small ailments, but the old doctor in the village was never skilled and is now too old, deaf, and nearly blind, making it impossible for him to help them.
Sometimes, Yang Cheng could diagnose the cause of an illness just by taking a quick glance, without even checking the pulse. He would either give a few acupuncture treatments or instruct them to go up the mountain to gather herbs.
His treatment speed was incredibly fast, and the patients he cured didn’t leave; they stayed in the courtyard to watch him diagnose others.
Usually, there’s not much entertainment in Hidden Cloud Village, so watching Yang Cheng’s treatments was like watching magic, captivating everyone.
His acupuncture skills had reached an extraordinary level; a flick of the fingers and the Silver Needle would precisely strike the acupuncture point, while he could easily find herbs from his basket.
If only the Little Divine Doctor could stay in the village, they wondered how happy they would be.
As it started to get dark, the last patient walked over, wearing a straw hat and looking down, appearing quite embarrassed.
"Isn’t that Er Laizi! What’s he doing here too?"
"You’d better go back; the Little Divine Doctor is here to treat illnesses. You’re cursed, it’s not his department!"
"And your face is so disgusting that you might even make the Little Divine Doctor lose his appetite."
Hearing the villagers’ mocking remarks, Er Laizi lowered his head even more and turned to leave.
"Wait a moment, since you’re already here, let me take a look."
Yang Cheng’s tone was gentle as he waved him over.
After hesitating for a while, Er Laizi walked over, sat in front of Yang Cheng, and said softly, "Sorry to trouble the Little Divine Doctor."
"It’s alright, just take off your hat so I can see your face."
Yang Cheng knew people like him were usually quite self-conscious, so he had to be considerate of their feelings during treatment.
"Okay!"
Er Laizi slowly removed his straw hat. Although it was getting dark, everyone could still see that his head and face were covered with sores, some of which were festering and looked very revolting.
The whole person looked like some mutated creature at first glance, causing a few young girls to cover their mouths in shock.
With just a glance, Yang Cheng said, "This isn’t any curse; it’s a skin disease, likely caused by your mother accidentally ingesting some toxins while pregnant, which poisoned the fetus and was passed on to you."
"Er Lai... This older brother, did your mother pass away already, with sores on her body before dying?"
Finding the name unpleasant, Yang Cheng quickly corrected himself, glancing at Er Laizi.
He widened his eyes and then nodded repeatedly, "Yes, that’s right. My mother passed away five years ago, and her body looked like this when she died."
Yang Cheng understood, no wonder the villagers thought it was a curse, assuming that Er Laizi caused his mother’s death.
"Little Divine Doctor, can you cure my illness?"
Er Laizi asked cautiously, his eyes full of hope.
"Of course, but I can’t treat it right now. Tomorrow, I’ll go up the mountain to gather some herbs. You’ll need to apply the medicine for a few days and pair it with acupuncture to fully recover."
Hearing this, Er Laizi was overjoyed, standing up with excitement, struggling to control his limbs.
Since birth, his face had been like this, and the village children hated him, the adults ignored him, only the village chief and Uncle Pan showed him some concern.
"Go home, rest well today, come to see me again tomorrow afternoon."
Yang Cheng didn’t mind him and patted his shoulder reassuringly.
"Thank you, Divine Doctor!"
Er Laizi was filled with excitement, and after saying a word, he ran off.
"Brother Cen, you’re really amazing. Is there any illness you can’t cure in this world?"
Da Shan, full of admiration, saw Yang Cheng as a deity who had suddenly arrived in Hidden Cloud Village to save them.
"I haven’t encountered one yet, maybe someday I will."
Yang Cheng smiled slightly, feeling a bit tired.
As he was about to turn back to his room, Yun Chan quickly approached and said, "Da Shan just returned from outside, and we don’t have much food at home. Why don’t you all come to my house for dinner? I’ve already asked my mom to prepare it."
"Village Chief, how can we do that? It’s not appropriate for so many of us to go to your house to eat. I can go pick some vegetables right now and slaughter a chicken."
Da Shan waved his hand repeatedly, embarrassed to go to the village chief’s house to eat for free.
"Stop talking nonsense. If you cook right now, it will take more than an hour. The Little Divine Doctor has been tired and hungry all day, he doesn’t have time to wait for you to finish cooking."
Yun Chan frowned slightly, and with one look, Da Shan dared not argue further.
"Let’s go, let’s eat together. The village chief’s meals must be delicious."
Yang Cheng was indeed hungry and wanted to taste the local delicacies of Hidden Cloud Village.
Calling Ni Qingyao, Kong Lingwen, and Da Shan’s parents, the group headed to Yun Chan’s house.
Upon entering the courtyard, the fragrance of meat wafted through the air. The village chief’s house was more luxurious than others, and the courtyard was kept very clean.
"Chan’Er, dinner is ready, come help bring the dishes."
A woman in her thirties, with a pleasant face, called out.
Da Shan, being very perceptive, immediately went inside to help move the tables and chairs, busily serving the dishes.
In a short while, everyone was seated at the table.
Having been hungry all day, everyone devoured their meals, especially with Ni Qingyao, a big eater, turning the plates empty in no time.
On the way back, Da Shan rubbed his round belly, a bit wistful: "The village chief’s cooking is truly delicious, I wonder if Hu Zi can find good food over there."
"Don’t be sad, go back and prepare. Once Yue Ying recovers well, hold the wedding, and take good care of her as a way of repaying Hu Zi."
Yang Cheng patted his shoulder, knowing that losing a brother would be hard, but he couldn’t dwell in sadness forever.
"Brother Cen, I do want to marry Yue Ying, but the girl might not be willing to marry me."
Da Shan’s dark face turned red, shy like a little girl.
"Your parents’ illnesses are cured. If you three work hard together, life will only get better. Besides, you’re Hu Zi’s good brother, Yue Ying marrying you is the safest choice."
Yang Cheng felt that if she married someone else, there was no guarantee she wouldn’t be bullied as an orphan, but someone like Da Shan would never do that.
The group returned home, and just as they entered the courtyard, Yang Cheng heard some noise next door.
"Yue Ying must be awake. I’ll go take a look."
Yang Cheng quickly walked over and, upon opening the door, saw Yue Ying struggling to get up.
"Don’t move around, your wounds are too deep. If you use too much force, they will tear open."
He rushed over to hold her down and accidentally placed his hand on something soft while trying to avoid her wounds.
"You... you pervert!"
Yue Ying’s cheeks flushed instantly, glaring at him angrily.
